God's Trail
I insist on making my own path
But it's not going here
Not going there
In fact, not going anywhere
I go my own way
Do my own thing
Belt out the tune I like to sing
I run my course
Do what I think matters
Then wonder why it all splatters
I cloud my vision with tasks
So much to get done
Homework, computer, playing in the sun
I chase after dreams
And focus on things
I yearn for success
And seek progress
I tread many trails
Yet none give me peace
Where can I find sweet release
Why don't I run after He who cares
Where I can find rest
Be loved by the best
I should sprint after Him
With my whole heart
Nothing should split us apart
Forget my other paths
Focus on Him
Put aside my earthly whim
If I could only stay on His trail
He has my path marked out
Already knows what I'm all about
"Run to me," he says
"I'll be your guide
And stay by your side"
I finally run into His arms
And even if I fail
It's ok because I'm on God's trail
